Glensheen Mansion and Split Rock Lighthouse
What an incredible day! My friend and I toured the Glensheen Manion and I VERY much enjoyed it. The tour guide was really superior and I know I want to return.
But the VERY highlight of the day for me was going to Split Rock Lighthouse. Yes, it has rained all day at Two Harbors, where the lighthouse is. The fog dense. As we stood inside one of the homes the lighthouse guards used to live in, the winds kicked up, the rain poured in buckets. I thought of the "Gales of November" here in JUNE!
We went up to the lighthouse, but what transfixed me was the elements themselves. While the others who took the tour went to an enclosed area, I stepped to the barb wire fence at the base of the lighthouse, looked from side to side. The rain and wind blowing into my face. I was snapping pictures, looking down at the waves, snapping side to side. Even though it was so foggy there really wasn't anything to see.
But what came over me I wish I could put into words. I wanted to stay out in this weather, to become part of the winds, to stand there and have nature take me away. I had to leave, sadly, but only for today. I WILL return, on a sunny day, to view what surely must appear to be eternity.
