The record with the big hole
Not that I enjoy showing my age mind you, but a couple of years ago, my former co-worker and I were talking over our cubicles, yakking about music. What we like and disliked etc. At the time she was 25 years old. She was talking about how she really loved her mothers music, loved the Doors, Simon and Garfunkel, Janice Joplin etc.
I shared with her some of my CD's that I kept at work and she shared some of her's with me.
At the end of one particular talk about our music favorites, she called over the cube to me to ask me if I knew "what the small record with the big hole" was called as that is what her mother had lots of.
I tried not to laugh as I replied, " It's called a 45".
When did I become so old and wise? :)

...And where is your 45 copy of "Kicks" tonight?
My 45? Why Professor, you should know that for Paul, Mark and the Raiders, I only buy the ALBUMS! :)
OK, that may make you think yer old, but, gal. How about the records that were smaller than 33 1/3s but bigger than 45s and had a small hole in them?
Those would be called 78s.
I used to love playing 'em when my parents were out on dates, Dorsey Brothers, Goodman, Miller, some guy who sang, "cigerits and whiskey and wild, wild women!" and a whole buncha neat ol songs.
Dang! Can't even buy a player to play those anymore! OK. They werent always that good, but, then again, some of the stuff I hear today ain't always silk to the ear, either.
What I really hate is when I say someone's name like Janice Joplin or Jimi Hendrix and all I hear is, "...who?...."
Boneman, I have been thinking I should have commented on the 78 records as I can recall them as a small child when my grandmother had them. But since the memory is dim and my recollection is they look the same as the LP, I decided against mentioning it. Thanks for bringing it up. I'm sure there are MANY people who haven't a clue about the 78's. :)
And I DO know what you mean about the artists from the '60's and on whom people now days say, "who"? if those names are brought up. sigh.
